FAMU Student Recreation Center

Details

JRA was selected to design the new Student Recreation Center For FAMU. The Project was divided into three phases.

Phase I of the Center had a construction budget of $5.9 million. The 39,000 square foot structure consisted of three levels. The entry level consisted of a 15,000 square foot fitness area, a 2,500 square foot aerobics and multipurpose room with cushioned wood floor, mirrors and state of the art sound system and lobby area with check in desk and fruit bar. Overlooking the fitness area is the "Cardio Bridge" which contains various types of machines used for cardiovascular workouts. Also located on the upper level were the building's administrative offices. The lower level contains the locker areas, a small student gathering area and the staging point for the rock-climbing wall which traverses all three levels. The facility is the headquarters for the FAMU Intramural Athletics Office and Campus Fitness/Nutritional Program.

Phase II was a 30,000 square foot addition to the main building and had a construction budget of $3.2 million. This phase included an expansion of the main lobby and the fruit bar to allow for viewing of the new court area. The court area includes two basketball courts, two racquetball courts and a new multipurpose and spinning room.

Phase Ill of the project consisted of new athletic fields for the University's Intramural Sports Program. The project included an artificial turf multi-use play field, two softball fields, two flag football fields and a soccer field. Also included in the project are basketball courts, a sand volleyball court and a jogging trail. Additional parking and restroom facilities were also in the project scope.
