Completed in 2024, the new Panama City Beach Fire Department Training Facility represents a bold step forward in hands-on firefighter education and tactical preparedness. Designed by JRA in close collaboration with the City’s Fire Department, this innovative, multi-level structure is constructed from recycled shipping containers, highlighting both sustainability and cost-effective durability. A prominent exterior stair tower adds vertical training opportunities while enhancing the building's industrial character.
The facility is equipped with a wide range of specialized features to support comprehensive fire and rescue training. These include two “burn rooms” with controlled burn carts for safe live fire simulations, movable wall systems that allow for reconfigurable interior layouts, and roof and wall breach panels to support structural access and emergency response drills. Additionally, the structure integrates smoke-generating systems and multiple grappling points to simulate real-world rescue and entry conditions.
This training facility is one of four collaborative efforts between JRA and the City of Panama City Beach Fire Department. All together, these initiatives reflect JRA’s continued commitment to designing high-performance public safety facilities that support readiness, resilience, and long-term community impact.
