JRA designed the Ralph D. Turlington Florida Education Center which serves as home to the Florida Department of Education. This 420,000 square foot building is located on the Southwest edge of downtown Tallahassee. The prism-shaped structure anchors that side of the Capitol Complex. The building houses over 1,500 employees of the Department of Education and brought the departments from 17 separate locations into one cohesive structure.
Typical floors of the 19-story building contain 21,000 square feet and have a net-to-gross ratio of 80%. One floor houses the department's conference area, banquet facilities and meeting rooms. The lobby includes gallery space for sculptures, paintings and other art exhibits sponsored by educational organizations.
