JRA was selected as the Architect for Florida A&M University's new Rural Diversity Healthcare Center in Crestview, Florida. The University planned to locate the new Center in an existing two story, 39,000 square foot textile manufacturing plant built in 1937. The initial part of the project's programming phase consisted of a complete analysis of the building's structural system including roofing and windows. It was determined that the historic facade would remain, but a new structural system would be constructed inside the existing walls. All plumbing and electrical systems were completely removed and updated to current codes.
The building houses Administration and Faculty Offices, Classrooms, a Medical Library and a Computer Lab. Other features include Science Labs, Locker Facilities and a Medical Simulation Lab.
